2011 has not seen any major updates. We started the year with far too many weeds and looking very scruffy

Shrubbery Mar 2011
but during the year we have managed to get on top of the weeds, and mulched the whole area with 3″ of rotted manure. We planted some yew hedge to “narrow” the path at the far end

Shrubbery Yews Jun 2011
and hopefully that will grow to create a narrow opening to the Hydrangea Woodland Walk we are planning beyond (the far path through the long grass)
The shrubs are now three years old, and are starting to gain some height, and this is now starting to emphasize the curve of the path and (hopefully!) draw the eye of visitor to want to explore.

Shrubbery Aug 2011
The Ceanothus on the left of the curve is now just big enough that you can no longer see directly down the border. Its been in flower since the Spring and is still flowering as I write this in November
We’ve taken down the hideous eyesore sheds and fencing at the back of the Shrubbery – although one small shed still awaiting collection by a neighbour for their ducks.

Shrubbery Sep 2011
We have also decided to concentrate on Blue and White in this border, so have moved all the Blue and White flowering herbaceous plants from the Herbaceous Border (than is now themed “Hot and Red”) into the Shrubbery to fill it out. Be interesting to see how that develops next year.

Again, everything is looking wonderful. It just requires time and lots of patience (and tons of hard work too!) Just how big is your garden anyway?
