In the Autumn of 2011 we decided to put a 32mm pipe down the length of the garden for irrigation – money well spent as 2012 was the wettest Summer on record and we didn’t have to lift a finger to irrigate anything!
The wet Summer of 2012 was perfect for hedge growth. Average height of the hedge plants, in Oct 2012, is 140cm. I don’t have a note of the measurement for Autumn 2011, but when planted in March 2011 they were 60/80cm and didn’t grow a great deal in their first year, so probably grew 20cm in their first season, and 40cm in 2012. They looked very bonnie, and the shape and the effect clear, in August:
